First, let’s talk about colors. Unless you are working in a fancy magazine or advertising agency, you should really avoid wearing sparkly colors or mixing too much colors for the day. You can experiment with any color you want, but make sure the combination is complimentary and that the overall look is subtle enough for work.

Going with neutral or skin colors can be great if you are wearing monochromatic – rather sharp or masculine – outfit. Dark brown, grey, dark blue, and other relatively neutral colors are great for complimenting your outfit and making you look ready for any challenge the office throws at you.

Another thing you should avoid is glitter. As much as this sounded ridiculous, there are still women wearing glittery make-ups to work just because they want to be the center of attention. Shiny make-ups – for instance oil-based foundation or blush-on – should also be avoided if you can. There’s a rather negative effect of wearing this type of make-up; you will be seen more for your look than your performances since your face will distract everyone from seeing how capable you are.
